Merry Christmas from Germany! After 16 years in the Army, Uncle Sam finally decided our family needed an overseas assignment to Stuttgart, Germany. We moved here the last week of June. The girls attend a DODEA school, which is a school on the military installation taught mostly by Americans for Americans in English. We also live on post which means we have a little bit of America within Germany. We are slowly learning German, with our “restaurant German” being the best we speak by far. We’ve decided to shake up the Christmas letter this year and let everyone have a paragraph to themselves instead of a mon...

Reinstating the Blog

Image
Hi Everyone! This is a test to see if our blog still works. We now live in Germany and there is a distinct lack of Kinko's or other places to make photocopies. So congratulations! You found where I will post the Christmas letter (as soon as I write it)! Tim, Luella, Kyla, and Katja enjoying the Stuttgart Weihnachtsmarkt.

Waiting Room "fun" (1/12/12)

Luella acted sick enough for Kyla to take her into the doctor's office. They found out she does not have pneumonia, but a long lasting cold. They did prescribe an inhaler for her so she could breathe easier. This picture was waiting for the x-ray tech to send the results to the doctor.

SNOW! (1/9/12)

Image
Look! It's snowing! Today is the first time it's snowed since before Halloween!  Luella wonders if it will accumulate to much snow.  We got a good dusting of snow. Let's go play!  Kati shortly after throwing a snowball at Kyla.  Kyla's wish for the winter came true - she got to watch Tim shovel the driveway!  Tim tossed the snow on Kati!  The girls thought it was funny to throw snowballs at Daddy while he shoveled.  Kyla got artistic with the snowy night and flag.  Snow angels!  Kati actually enjoyed the snow this year.  Luella loves the snow every year. She's ready to go sledding!  Luella takes on our hill head first.  Tim helped the girls go down the front yard together.  Wee!  The girls discovered they go down the hill faster when they sled together.  More sledding! Luella wanted to try shoveling what was covered while they played in the snow. Kyla was h...

Rysa Wheeler's 4th Birthday Party! (1/7/12)

Image
Today is Rysa Wheeler's 4th Birthday Party! Kati got to make a crown!  Kyla let Kati take the camera to get a picture of Kyla.  Then Kati figured out how to press a few buttons and take a picture of herself and mommy in black and white!  The kids got to decorate their own whoopie pies for their piece of birthday cake.  Luella joined us after her karate class and made her own beautiful whoopie pie.  Rysa got to blow out her candles and the sparklers!  We think there just might be a whoopie pie under all those sprinkles.  While Madelyn read a Fancy Nancy story, Luella decided to decorate Tom.  Kati decided to decorate Tim.  Then she went to help decorate Tom.  All the kids at the party in their fancy finery.  The kids with Tom, all fancied up! Kyla is ready to start cutting out the baptismal gown, as soon as Anna says go for it. Kati was exhausted after all the sugar and fun party!

Epiphany! (1/6/12)

Image
Tonight is Epiphany! So our church Epiphany Lutheran Church has a burning of the greens worship service outside every year.  The fire got going fast and hot.  We sang hymns around the fire.  More of the congregation singing.  Even more people singing.  Our young girls watching the fire burn.  Today is also Rysa Wheeler's 4th birthday!  Kati loved the Epiphany service. Luella enjoyed the evening service as well.

Spring and a Dress (1/5/12)

Image
Sounds a little crazy, but spring is in the air. Look! Our crocuses are blooming!  Kyla is working on turning Anna Malloy's wedding dress into a baptismal gown for her child who is due the end of January and they want to baptize him or her on their 1st wedding anniversary of April 1st!  Kyla has to remove all this lace in order to get enough fabric on grain.  It took Kyla about 30 hours just to remove enough lace to get use able fabric.  Why can't Kyla just use the lace on the dress as is? Look at the pattern piece and what it's covering. Now look at what is revealed when the pattern piece is taken away. That's not the pattern of lace we want on the front of the baptismal gown.
