Luella's 18 month appointment.
Luella saw the doctor today. We've been reading a book about different jobs women can have when they grow up, with Barbie as the main character. We've been talking about Dr. Barbie and the check up she would do.
Then Luella's doctor today was actually a Dr. Barbie too! Kyla did a double take when Dr. Barbara Siskind said that was her name.
Today was the first time Luella got to stand on the scale herself and stand against the wall for her height. She's 27 pounds 6 ounces and 32.5 inches tall. She's a very healthy girl! The doctor even mentioned that she's developmentally closer to a 2 year-old than 18 months...especially since she likes crayons and coloring books. She only got two shots, the DtaP and Hepatitis A. She was such a trooper and stopped crying after only a couple seconds. Thank goodness the Snoopy band-aids had stars on them!
Kyla was the one having the bad day. When Kyla made the appointment, the lady said Luella wasn't in DEERS (people tracking system for the military). Luella's been in there for 18 months now, so we don't know how she disappeared. Then we showed up for her appointment and they asked why we were there because "the patient" cancelled the appointment. Since no one took our appointment time, they did let us keep our appointment. Then the nurse tried pulling up Luella's immunization records and those had disappeared too. Luckily Kyla brought the shot record book and the print-out the immunization people made for her since she forgot the book two appointments in a row! After Luella's doctor's appointment we tried to go to DEERS to see if Luella was still in the system. Kyla was barely allowed in the door because she didn't have an appointment and swiftly kicked out the door when "the sponsor" (Tim) wasn't there to escort us. His name, rank, and social are all over Kyla's ID card, so she doesn't understand why he has to be there in person. He's a busy guy at work and Kyla is more than capable to ensure that our dependent is in the military system. But they don't work that way here and Tim will have to go next week. Very frustrating day for the mommy.
