Weekend with the Evers (10/1/11)

This weekend we drove out to Milford, Delaware to visit the Evers family! Luella and Sigrid picked up right where we left off!
They look adorable in their matching Target shirts!
Paige, Soren and Kati all stopped hugging to pose for the camera! The Evers took us to Fifer Orchards U-Pick Apples in Wyoming, DE. Here we are riding out to go pick our own apples. The girls were on the hunt for the biggest apples. These apples are Staymans.
Soren took care of the apples on the lowest branches.Kati got more of the medium branches. Her favorite was finding two apples on one stem.
Tim enjoyed the beautiful weather and family outing too!Luella showed off her favorite apple.
Sigrid showed off her favorite apple.Paige helped Soren pick some apples from the lower branches.
Kyla picked an apple for Tim and felt very "Genesis" about the whole event. We paused for a family photo before getting back on the tractor trailer for the ride back to the rest of the fall festival.
The kids had a great time playing around the fall festival. That huge hay pile had slides the kids played on all afternoon.Kati learned to climb up the ramp for the slides.
She slid down all by herself! (Later this slide closed because the seam that is bent at the bottom pulled apart even farther.)Kati was so proud to ride the slide ALL BY HERSELF!
Luella and Sigrid rode down the slides together until the last 30 minutes when someone told them they had to ride one at a time. They made a castle out of hay bales!
A spider lives in this castle! They made a tunnel out of corn stalks.Luella loved running through the corn tunnel!Trike races were set up and Kati tried her hardest to pedal the big trike.
Luella and Sigrid were just the right size for the trikes!
Soren even tried racing the girls with his shorter legs.
Soren found a bean bag toss to keep him happy for a long time.
Kati drove the hay bale tractor.Luella loved the zip line!Sigrid tried it, but didn't like the zip line as much as Luella.
Kati had to try what the big girls were doing. She held on, but didn't love the zip line.
Then it was time for the horse tire swings!
Eric and Tim got the girls on their horses and pushed. They had a blast swinging and nearly missing each other!Kati had to try the horse tire swing and really didn't enjoy her ride.Kati found a pumpkin to paint! Painting was more her favorite activity.Kati and Soren challenged each other to a rubber duck race.Kati won! Soren's got stuck in the turn. After this fun, Kyla, Tim and Eric had to race a few times. Tim won them all!The girls discovered the corn crib and loved playing in their "sandbox".Corn angels!Hard to see the outlines, but here's their finished angels.Luella buried Sigrid in the corn. She popped up much to Luella's surprise!Luella's turn to be buried in the corn. The dads found Frisbee golf to play near the corn stalk tunnel.Kati found a hay bale maze around a tree and just started running laps! Then she found another hay bale spider. We ended our day at Fifer Orchards with a game of gourd checkers.Back at the Evers, the kids played on their new backyard playground. They were pirates on the great sea, looking for people to rescue.Kyla's continued cake decorating class assignments are not going to waste. We decided to celebrate all the kids' birthdays after dinner. We lit candles for each person at the party. The big girls loved their Swiss chocolate cake with chocolate pudding mint chip filling and butter cream icing.Soren discovered that he LOVES cake! Kati does too!We gave Soren a pop-up version of "Guess How Much I Love You". We got his and Sigrid's books at the Library of Congress National Book Festival on September 25, 2011. We missed Sam McBratney by 30 minutes, so his book was not autographed.Sigrid got an autographed copy of John Bemelmans Marciano's "Madeline" book and Jane O'Connor's newest Fancy Nancy book.Luella got a copy of "Today I Feel Silly".She also got an umbrella that she can decorate herself.Kati got a floor puzzle with hidden letters in the picture. The girls showing off their presents!Eric got the honor of reading the girls their bedtime story.
