National Zoo with the Kensrud Ladies (7/19/11)

Kyla had her follow-up eye ophthalmologist appointment at Water Reed today. Since it's so close to Silver Spring, MD where Kit and Annika are living with Ryan until their house is built, we decided to meet them. The National Zoo is really close too! Kyla had fun driving through downtown DC to get to the Zoo. We had to take pictures at the front gate!
While Kyla texted Kit who was already in the Zoo, the girls played in the misters to beat the heat of the day.
We met up with the Kensrud ladies! Annika took the girls to see the zebras. Starting the day off with our butt pictures!
We saw one of the younger elephants in the exhibit.

Kati wanted to see "Simba" the lion from "The Lion King" and the closest we got was a tiger.
On our way out of the park, Kyla shared her smoothie with Luella. Peach mango!
We love cotton candy!
We also love the girl behind the cotton candy, Annika!
Kati enjoyed her stroller and the water.
Kit gave a great smile!
A very nice lady saw that Kyla was trying to take individual pictures of our group. She volunteered to take our group picture, because she understands the lack of Mom in the photos. Mom is always taking the pictures, so she rarely has her picture taken.
On our way out of the park, the girls had to do "sassy" poses by the lion.

Kyla's appointment went well. The ophthalmologist determined it was allergy eyes, since Kyla had a bit of a recurrence after Mason Neck State Park and 4th of July outings. He said if it continued, call him, and he would put in a referral for an allergist appointment.

Luella picked out her own outfit. She was cold, so long sleeves and pants. Then she was hot, so flip-flops. She loves her hat, so that worked in her mind too. Katja just looking cute, so had to take her picture too! Bath time for the girls and Luella decided that making Katja's hair stick straight up means she's a boy. Tim plays Army in WV.

This is the Center for National Response. It's right off I-70 in West Virginia. It was part of the interstate, but the tunnel thru the mountain was too difficult for the state to maintain , so they let people train in there. They can make it rain, blow wind up to 40 mph, fires, explosions, all kinds of awesome training. Here's Tim's company at the entrance to the tunnel. Tim was playing Army while we were hosting Ginger before her big move. Tim and April Miller - team leaders discussing their missions from the day. Tim and his company commander, MAJ Alex Lovase discussing football, or something. Take cover! They have paintball gun attachments to their weapons so you can see where you got hit. One of the missions was to rappel down this hill... Then wade thru this tunnel for 1/4 mile in icy cold water to get to the objective site... As you can see, it was a really long day. Tim was the commander for this mission. The Soldiers had to traverse thru a collapsed tunnel....

Early Birthday Celebrations! (8/6/11)

Kyla found Goobers sleeping on Kati's diaper changing table this morning. He was so cute laying there, Kyla had to get the girls in on a the picture too. We decided to spend this Saturday afternoon celebrating Kati's birthday. We went to see Cars 2 in the movie theater. It was cute, but like most sequels, the original was better. Kati had a coupon for a free meal to Famous Dave's. It came with a Roman candle! Look at the shocked expression on her face with the BIG CANDLE! Kati tried to blow out her candle, but it just wouldn't stop! Luella on the other end of the flames wondered if she really needed her eyebrows! This kid loves her ice cream! Happy early 3rd birthday Katja Johanna!
