Vacation Bible School, August 9-13, 2010

Kyla, Luella and Katja spent the week of August 9-13 in Vacation Bible School. Kyla taught Arts and Crafts. Luella was in the Orange Octopus class. Katja was in the nursery. This was the first day and Luella came running up to give Kyla a hug!

The second day we tied blankets to be given to others in need.
The teachers did most of the tying since we were dealing with preschoolers. The kids were okay with watching their teachers tie the knots.

Day three of crafts had the kids making spy telescopes.

Also day three we had the kids use their spy scopes to find hidden treasures.
Day three snacks was Luella's favorite - whipped cream with Jell-o!
Day four's theme was comforting. We had a doctor kit so the kids could use band-aids to comfort their stuffed animals.

Kyla took videos of the kids singing during the finale and it is fun to watch Luella sing! This was the theme song, Vast Voyage.

This song is the girls' favorite song - Shout (to the North and the South).

This was the presentation of the blankets we made in Arts and Crafts for a mission project. Kyla had no idea how to get preschoolers to tie blankets, but they all seemed content to watch while their teachers subconsciously took over.

Luella picked out her own outfit. She was cold, so long sleeves and pants. Then she was hot, so flip-flops. She loves her hat, so that worked in her mind too. Katja just looking cute, so had to take her picture too! Bath time for the girls and Luella decided that making Katja's hair stick straight up means she's a boy. We really don't know where she gets this from! Sorry if you're offended by the baby nudity/ inadvertent mooning.

Tim plays Army in WV.

This is the Center for National Response. It's right off I-70 in West Virginia. It was part of the interstate, but the tunnel thru the mountain was too difficult for the state to maintain , so they let people train in there. They can make it rain, blow wind up to 40 mph, fires, explosions, all kinds of awesome training. Here's Tim's company at the entrance to the tunnel. Tim was playing Army while we were hosting Ginger before her big move. Tim and April Miller - team leaders discussing their missions from the day. Tim and his company commander, MAJ Alex Lovase discussing football, or something. Take cover! They have paintball gun attachments to their weapons so you can see where you got hit. One of the missions was to rappel down this hill... Then wade thru this tunnel for 1/4 mile in icy cold water to get to the objective site... As you can see, it was a really long day. Tim was the commander for this mission. The Soldiers had to traverse thru a collapsed tunnel....

Early Birthday Celebrations! (8/6/11)

Kyla found Goobers sleeping on Kati's diaper changing table this morning. He was so cute laying there, Kyla had to get the girls in on a the picture too. We decided to spend this Saturday afternoon celebrating Kati's birthday. We went to see Cars 2 in the movie theater. It was cute, but like most sequels, the original was better. Kati had a coupon for a free meal to Famous Dave's. It came with a Roman candle! Look at the shocked expression on her face with the BIG CANDLE! Kati tried to blow out her candle, but it just wouldn't stop! Luella on the other end of the flames wondered if she really needed her eyebrows! This kid loves her ice cream! Happy early 3rd birthday Katja Johanna!
