Jeni
Mullenix was Kyla's college Sophomore year roommate at Concordia. She's since moved to Madrid, Spain where she met her husband Samuel Gonzalo Vela. Jeni is a bridesmaid for Anna and Brian's wedding on Friday. Jeni and Samuel decided to come down for a visit before the wedding. We picked the most "
drizmal" day according to the weatherman on the news to see the cherry blossoms in DC.

The blossoms with the gray drizzling sky above.

Kyla always thinks the cherry blossoms look like snow on the trees, which is a nice thought when it's 80 degrees like last year, but not so much when it's barely above freezing.

Samuel had us put our umbrellas down for all the pictures because, "It's not raining!" but he neglected to zoom in to cut the umbrellas out of the photos!

A true to life look at how we walked around DC all afternoon with umbrellas and the girls covered in the stroller.

We didn't feel like walking in the
drizmal weather to the Tidal Basin where the huge proportion of the cherry trees are planted, but this is at the WWII Memorial looking across to the Tidal Basin.

As we were walking from WWII Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial, this squirrel tried to jump into the stroller because it correctly assumed there was food in with the kids. We scared it away from the stroller, but then it jumped up onto Jeni's purse! Yet another reason to say, "I
hate squirrels!"

Surprisingly the Reflecting Pool is torn up. Kyla overheard a tour guide say that it was leaking and they are completely redoing the design, and they expect the renovation to take THREE YEARS! It's a three foot pool. Come back in 2014 to see the new pool.

Jeni and Samuel in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Kyla got the lucky shot before a lady with a really large
tushy stood right in front of me with their camera.

Kyla couldn't get the jogging stroller into the doorway to get to the elevator. Luella doesn't remember climbing the stairs to see Lincoln, so Kyla let her climb today. Lincoln was "really big super
dooper gigantic humongous!" according to Luella.

We left DC and headed home on the metro. It was really a cold
drizmal day, but a good one when we get to share our nation's capitol with new visitors!
It was so cold that when Kyla called Uncle Phil to let him know that we were on the Mall, she dropped her phone right onto the gravelly sidewalk and shattered the screen. Amazingly, it still works! Kyla took it to an Apple store and they said they could fix the screen for $100 or we can wait until Tim comes home in May and upgrade to the iPhone 4 for $200. We're waiting for Tim, especially since the volume button is gone and the power button is hanging on by a thread.
