Refugee camp from the recent political violence in Kenya.

Monkey fight in the parking lot of
Nakuru National Park.

Tim was worried he wouldn't see any animals - until he saw these zebras and impalas basically in the parking lot of the park.

Look closely and you can see the baby monkey peeking out from under its mama.

Entrance to Lake
Nakuru National Park in Kenya.

As Tim and his companions waited to drive through the entrance, this baboon was waiting for tourists to get off the bus.

More zebras not 50 feet from the entrance. Tim's driver/guide said the zebras congregate near humans because you normally don't find lions near a lot of people.

Another impala near the entrance.

The only monkey in a tree Tim saw the whole day.

Water
buffalo hanging out in ... water of all things!

This park is famous for its flamingo population.

This is one of the only areas people are allowed to get out and walk around. The ground is years of built up bird poo.

Tim's driver, guide and Swahili coach, Robert!

Wild giraffe.

Wild giraffe watching us watching him.

More impalas taking their sweet time chewing on a tree. We had to wait a few minutes before they finally decided to get out of our way.

Look closely to see the
dik dik - it's a deer about the size of a small dog. Robert said they are very rare to see because they are so skittish.

That big grey mass is a black rhino - those other smaller animals are water
buffalo. This picture doesn't do justice to the size of rhinos.

Every rhino we saw was sleeping. This one at least lifted its head for a second so we could see the massive horn on it.

The star of the show - a pride of lions lounging under a tree. We saw these cats only about a kilometer before the entry/exit. They were also only a few hundred yards from a camp site where people were sleeping in tents. So much for lions not liking to be near humans!
