Sunday, November 14, 2010, Tim and Uncle Phil went fishing with Captain Bill and First Mate Sally on Key Dreams. Mark was worried that they wouldn't be done fishing and back in time to get Joanna to the airport, so they didn't go out on the boat. Luella hugged Uncle Marcos good-bye until Thanksgiving.

Luella hugged Joanna good-bye until Thanksgiving.

Tim and Uncle Phil caught their limit (8 fish or 2 per adult on the boat) not long after they started fishing, but held off on their last two fish trying to catch their trophy fish until 11am. The trophy fish (over 34") were
elusive. Tim caught most of the keepers (over 18" and under 28") while Uncle Phil caught a lot of slot fish that had to be thrown back (28" to 34"). The biggest fish of the day was 32" and it pained Uncle Phil to throw it back into the water, but rules are rules if we want to fish another day. First Mate Sally estimated that was 100 pounds of fish in the cooler.

Two years ago over Memorial Day weekend, Tim caught a 36" fish and Luella was 37" tall. This time she's 43" tall and these fish were all under 28". So Luella is much taller than one fish this trip!

But she's not quite two fish tall!

Captain Bill cleaned and filleted the fish for us. Tim and Luella thought it was funny to watch the gulls fight over the fish skin and guts.

On the boat,
Katja thought the bait was cool.

Back home Tim trimmed the red meat off the fillets to tame the
gamy flavor. Kyla seal-a-mealed the fillets to keep off freezer burn. All told, we had 17 pounds of fish fillets! Now that's a great fishing trip weekend!
