White House Christmas (12/19/10)

Kyla has always dreamed of seeing the White House decorated for Christmas. This year her dream came true! We took the girls, Uncle Phil, Ginger Hammerquist and Pastor Kim Conway with us. We were so used to having stroller parking at Disney World, that we assumed the White House would have something similar. It didn't. So all 7 of us had to rotate through the tour to watch the stroller. The National Park Rangers who are in charge of the line definitely weren't as nice as Disney cast members either. Kyla forgot her ID in the stroller and had to go get it with Katja in tow. The park ranger wasn't going to let Kyla join Tim, Phil and Luella back in line. She made us ask the people between the end of the line and our family if we could cut in line, even though we were just standing in front of them minutes before. That incident really put a damper on the day. The decorations were pretty and the company was even better as we ended with a late lunch at The Old Ebbit Grill.
Uncle Phil and Pastor Kim left for home and we took Ginger with us to an open house party thrown by a guy Tim was deployed with in Iraq. They threw a smoking hot party! Literally! Their townhouse filled with smoke as their basement apartment started on fire. Luckily their tenant was invited to the party and everyone was quick to respond. The firefighters were there within five minutes of the phone call to 911. No one was hurt. The party resumed as soon as the firefighters gave their okay.

Luella picked out her own outfit. She was cold, so long sleeves and pants. Then she was hot, so flip-flops. She loves her hat, so that worked in her mind too. Katja just looking cute, so had to take her picture too! Bath time for the girls and Luella decided that making Katja's hair stick straight up means she's a boy. Tim plays Army in WV.

This is the Center for National Response. It's right off I-70 in West Virginia. It was part of the interstate, but the tunnel thru the mountain was too difficult for the state to maintain , so they let people train in there. They can make it rain, blow wind up to 40 mph, fires, explosions, all kinds of awesome training. Here's Tim's company at the entrance to the tunnel. Tim was playing Army while we were hosting Ginger before her big move. Tim and April Miller - team leaders discussing their missions from the day. Tim and his company commander, MAJ Alex Lovase discussing football, or something. Take cover! They have paintball gun attachments to their weapons so you can see where you got hit. One of the missions was to rappel down this hill... Then wade thru this tunnel for 1/4 mile in icy cold water to get to the objective site... As you can see, it was a really long day. Tim was the commander for this mission. The Soldiers had to traverse thru a collapsed tunnel....

Early Birthday Celebrations! (8/6/11)

Kyla found Goobers sleeping on Kati's diaper changing table this morning. He was so cute laying there, Kyla had to get the girls in on a the picture too. We decided to spend this Saturday afternoon celebrating Kati's birthday. We went to see Cars 2 in the movie theater. It was cute, but like most sequels, the original was better. Kati had a coupon for a free meal to Famous Dave's. It came with a Roman candle! Look at the shocked expression on her face with the BIG CANDLE! Kati tried to blow out her candle, but it just wouldn't stop! Luella on the other end of the flames wondered if she really needed her eyebrows! This kid loves her ice cream! Happy early 3rd birthday Katja Johanna!
